I was photographing the Starboard Hawaii State Windsurfing Championship at Kanaha Beach Park when I took this shot. The gentleman in the photo was confined to a wheelchair. The board and sail contraption was trailered behind his vehicle and assembled at the waters edge by his companion. Finally, his friend helped him transfer from his wheelchair to the seat on the makeshift board, took up his position behind the sail and they were off for an afternoon of windsurfing. I was both touched and inspired.

Mike,
This just tells you that the gentleman had a lot of passion for this sport and nothing was going to stop him from enjoy it. Thanks for sharing.
Wow ... that's absolutely amazing. Sometimes we let little things stop us from achieving our potential ... and look at what you can accomplish, when you put your mind to it.
Very inspirational.
Sheryl and Mike, thanks for sharing this photo it is very inspirational. Reminds me of the words of
Robert Schuller
"What would you attempt to do if you knew you would not fail?"
This windsurfer knew he could not fail, he was going to achieve what he wanted to do no matter what circumstances may have gotten in his way. He knew he had the loving caring support of a friend by his side.
I appreciate everyone taking a moment to respond. Here is another bit of inspiration that we can all apply to our lives...
"First comes thought; then organization of that thought into ideas and plans; then transformation of those plans into reality. The beginning, as you will observe, is in your imagination."

That is amazing and inspirational...thank you so much for sharing!

Mike and Sheryl - This looks like a lot of fun! Oh if I was 20-30 years younger to have the nerve to try it.
You're right that's very inspiring! I was wondering what it was and I'm glad you explained it.
Kenneth - You would be surprised at how many guys "our age" are out getting it done. I for one am happy to operate the camera.
Georgina - Thanks for stopping by and congrats on the new listing.

There are so many so-called handicapped people who can be an inspiration to us. That's one of the reasons why I so enjoyed volunteering at Special Olympics. They are special not because they are handicapped, but because they work to overcome.
